LEMPO 2011
The first LEMPO festival was a success!
We got lots of positive feedback and articles in the local newspapers.

The first LEMPO had workshops of Icelandic folk music (by Bára Grimsdottir and Chris Foster), playing Swedish polska (by Erik Ask-Upmark), and learned the new "Suomi-zumba" -exercise based on Finnish folk music and traditional folk dance steps. FolkJam was taught by Salla Korja-Paloniemi. The Kouvola-house had many concerts both in the lobby area and main concert hall, the "Simelius" hall. Also the shopping centre Manski and Kaunisnurmi old folks centre got their Lempo-concerts. Billy Horne, an instrument maker based in Turku, introduced kanteles and hurdy-gurdys during the festival. On Saturday evening the jamming (and dance) started at the Kouvola-house, and was continued at the Neville restaurant in the centre of Kouvola.

On Sunday afternoon concert we had also the couse participants' performance and folk musicians from the South-East of Finland performed together, lead by Jarmo Romppanen.

Lempo festival ended at the beautiful hall of the orthodox church in Kasarminmäki.

We had about 100 performers during the weekend. We hope, that LEMPO has many good years yet to come, and new audiences will find the event. Welcome to enjoy folk music, dance, courses, jamming sessions and workshops with us!
